This program is designed to approach the history of Western Civilization from a unique perspective that of the history of three particular ethnic or geographic groups from the beginning of their recorded history to the present. This approach is intended to accomplish two things: to present in depth a study of a particular group, and to allow a survey of the entire history of Western Civilization but only from that perspective. We will begin with the Ionian Greeks. Ionia is particularly significant in our history because that is where the study of history itself, as well as of mathematics and natural philosophy, began. Second, Lotharingia, where one of the most important, if accidental, moments in European history occurred. Third, Jewish resettlements, from the Roman conquest of Judea to the present.
